"Happy Mine!!"

What an amazing Memorial day weekend we had...Bev's family was in town. Auntie Lesley, Uncle Nic, cousin Cadam, Granny and Bev's good friend Amber all made the trip to Gorham, Maine for a little vacation. On Saturday several family and friends stopped by to visit. It was loads of fun and non-stop laughter all day and the kids had an absolute blast. That morning, when Rory woke up I said to him "Are you excited to have a party today?" and he immediately looked up at me with a huge smile and said "Happy?" (translated as...do you mean a happy birthday party, because that means cake and I love cake...). Then he started dancing around his room saying "Happy, happy". At some point in the day he decided that what would be better than it being a happy birthday party was if it was HIS happy birthday party, so he walked around the house the rest of the day yelling "Happy Mine, Happy Mine!!!" Every once in a while we got a "Happy Mama!!" but mostly it was "Happy Mine". Then, when it came time for dessert, he was not disappointed at all to find out that there was no cake once he realized that there was a banana pudding truffle dessert. He turned his "happy" into a noun and the dessert itself was dubbed "happy". He paraded around the party asking various people (whether he knew them or not) for "more happy?". How could anyone deny that kid a bite of their dessert when he asked so sweetly?! So, he had a bite of everyone's "happy" and was indeed a happy kid.

Now, he will randomly ask for either "happy" or "co-co" which is his other name for chocolate treats. The funniest part is that he knows that likely we're going to just laugh at him and say "no" but that occasionally he gets lucky and there really is some yummy dessert that he'll get a bite of, so he starts off asking very quietly, like a little whisper, with a very mischeivous look on his face..."I want co-co", almost as if he's trying to put subliminal thoughts into my head. Then when I say "no co-co!", he gets a little louder and says "co-co?" with a big smile and I say "no co-co...we're going to have breakfast", finally he flat out yells "CO-CO!!" and starts laughing because he knows its a joke at that point. Too funny. I can't imagine where he gets his love of chocolate. (ha, ha)

On Sunday of the weekend we got a nice visit from Mike, Lisa and Jack, so he had 2 of his cousins around to play with. And, he was very excited to watch his uncles Mike and Nic hoist a very heavy and very solid wooden big-boy bed up to his new room through a window. (Thanks guys!!) Not that he's quite ready to transition out of his crib, but at least now when he does, his room will be all set up for him. We even found an organic Curious George bedspread to complete his new room and some stars to put on the ceiling.

Other highlights from the weekend, we got to go to a town fair and ride the kiddie train, pet a giant turtle and slide down the biggest bouncy slide. We went to the beach for the first time this season and played with rocks and snails. The adults had a super fun bonfire on sunday night at Imani and Kate's house (while Granny stayed home with the sleeping babies). The whole weekend was full of some much needed relaxation, good food, drink and "HAPPY".

And you know, after a house full of guests all week, you'd think that we'd be a little relieved to have the place back to ourselves, but the reality is that we are just really sad to see everyone go. We are so lucky and thankful that we both have families who we truly enjoy spending time with. I wish everyone lived a little closer, but at least when we do get together, we manage to fit in months worth of love and fun into a weekend of family entertainment.

Below is a link to some photos from the weekend. Enjoy!
